Action/Adventure, Science Fiction/Fantasy and Comedy
1 hr. 43 min. A meteor, carrying alien organisms hits the New Mexico desert. The aliens multiply and evolve at an alarmingly fast rate threatening to take over the world. A community college science professor, his eccentric geologist buddy, a wannabe fireman and a government scientist are brought together to deal with the invasion.
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for crude and sexual humor, and for sci-fi action.
Think Ghostbusters against aliens in stead of ghosts and you have what director Ivan Reitman was going for with this movie. Though he fell far short of the mark, Evolution does have a few good laughs and a likable cast. This is not a movie that's going to make anyone's 10 best list. Still, I find it hard to say anything really bad about the movie. I liked it while I was watching it. For one and a half hours I didn't worry about my bills. So, I guess it worked.
It could have been so much better though. There were no real memorable lines or sceens. I still quote Ghostbusters to this day. On the other hand, Evolution was alot better that Ghostbusters 2.
My take: Rentable.
